Father Damien (Rector) and Mrs. Viles (Principal)
Good afternoon! It is amazing to realize how quickly our school year is progressing as we finish our first week of Advent. The beginning of Advent is the perfect time for us to begin our Virtue of the Month program. The virtue for the month of December is Hope. As we each try to live this theological virtue, we are reminded that as faith-filled Catholics we are never alone. We always have Christ at our side. Throughout the month, teachers will recognize students who are demonstrating the virtue of hope. We will have a drawing (for a small treat) each Friday morning at prayers. Additionally, we have included a document with details about the virtue of hope. Please use the document as a guide for discussions about hope at home.
I had the pleasure of attending the Advent Choir Festival at St. Edward the Confessor Parish School on Thursday. Our Chamber Singers performed two Advent songs for the audience. They did an outstanding job. Mrs. Itano was very proud of their efforts. We also thank Mrs, Itano for her dedication to our music program and our choirs.
Attending our fall production of Villain School was a perfect way to begin our Thanksgiving vacation. Thank you to all of our performers and the backstage crew. The students did a great job. The entire performance was filled with humor and life lessons. Thank you also to all of the moms and dads who helped to build sets, create costumes, and help with hair and makeup. Without all of our volunteers it would be impossible for our productions to be so successful! A special thank you to Mr. U for preparing our performers and making the whole thing happen!

It is the beautiful task of Advent to awaken in all of us memories of goodness and thus to open doors of hope.

Wishing all of our SJB School Community a Happy 2nd Week of Advent!
Please Join Us During this time of Advent: Thursday Mornings, please join us in the Grotto immediately after Morning Prayers to pray a decade of the Rosary for our students, faculty, families and any special intentions. Everyone is welcome (moms, dads, younger siblings!). It's a great opportunity to quiet ourselves during this Advent season of waiting in anticipation of the biggest birthday celebration of the year.
Prayer Basket: Every week we ask that our SJB families pray for our faculty/staff members, events, and other families at SJB. By the end of the school year it is our goal to have prayed for the whole school community by name. Let us lift up our prayers for the intentions of: Ms. Deverman, Learning Support Teacher. We pray for God's blessings on the families of: Taylor Hershelman; Mia Hidalgo; Ava and Ryan Hill; Gregory and James Hill; Isaac, Julius and Troy Hoang; Henry Houck; Collin and Evan Huang.
Special Intentions: We pray for the repose of the soul of Mr. James Frances Buote, father of Mrs. Leath. We ask for prayers for the continued healing and recovery of Mr. Desmond Silveira, one of our SJB School dads. We pray for all those special intentions in our prayer basket and those undergoing medical procedures and/or testing this week.
Prayer to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception (Feast Day 12/8/19)
O most Holy Virgin, immaculate in body and spir- it, look kindly on me as I implore your powerful intercession. O Most Holy Mother, receive my prayers as I present them to God. (state your intentions here) O Mary, Mother of Jesus and our Mother, you intercede for us with your Son. O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee. Amen. (www.amm.org)
Prayer to Mary, our Lady of Guadalupe (Feast Day 12/12/19)
Dear Mother, we love you. We thank you for your promise to help us in our need. We trust in your love that dries our tears and comforts us. Teach us to find our peace in your son, Jesus, and bless us every day of our lives. Help us to build a shrine in our hearts. Make it as beautiful as the one built for you on the mount of Tepeyac. A shrine full of trust, hope, and love of Jesus growing stronger each day. Mary, you have chosen to remain with us by giving us your most wonderful and holy self-image on Juan Diego's cloak. May we feel your loving presence as we look upon your face. Like Juan, give us the courage to bring your message of hope to everyone. You are our mother and our inspiration. Hear our prayers and answer us. Amen. (www.catholicnewsagency.com)
Sunday, December 8th, is the Second Sunday of Advent. The Immaculate Conception Holy Day is moved to Monday, December 9th. Although it is not a holy day of obligation, you are encouraged to go to mass or make some other devotion to honor Our Lady. (Fun Fact: The Blessed Mother under the title of The Immaculate Conception is the Patroness of the United States of America.)
Help decorate our sanctuary for Christmas season. Would you like to honor a beloved family member or special friend this Christmas season? Each year in our Christmas bulletin, we print dedications in honor or in memory of someone special to you. The donations collected for these dedications are used to purchase poinsettias, green and advent wreaths that fill the Sanctuary during Advent and Christmas. For your convenience, envelopes are available in the vestibule of the church. Envelopes may be placed in the Sunday collection baskets or dropped off at the parish office. Thank you for your donations!
Friday, December 6th, please join us every First Friday at 3:00 p.m. in the Church to pray a Rosary, chaplet, and litany for our priests.
