CATHOLIC TOUCH
A partnership of the Sisters of Mercy and the Norbertine Fathers promoting and underscoring the school's strong Catholic identity.
In making Spanish a required course of study for all of its students, St. John’s wishes not only that each student receive an introduction to the Spanish language and Hispanic culture in the elementary grades, but also that he/she gradually progress in his/her knowledge during the middle school years so as to become somewhat proficient by the time of graduation. Levels of aptitude will, of course, vary from student to student; and the teacher will take this into consideration, challenging the academically advanced while meeting the needs of those who demonstrate less aptitude in this subject area. The teacher will use a variety of pedagogical strategies and assessment techniques to ensure student learning and success. In addition to reaping the intellectual and practical advantages of the study of Spanish, it is also hoped that the program will encourage students to continue the study of Spanish in secondary and higher education.
